Mahon Sweeney History

The firm of Mahon Sweeney was formed in 2007 when the long established firm of Farrell McDonnell Sweeney amalgamated with Sean A. Mahon & Company.

Farrell McDonnell Sweeney & Co. traces its history back to 1867 when it was founded by Farrell McDonnell, a local Solicitor and first Chairman of Roscommon County Council. Since then the firm has been run by many renowned Solicitors, including former President of the District Court, Judge Oliver Macklin and former County Registrar, Edmund Power. John R. Sweeney continues the link with Farrell McDonnell Sweeney as a former Partner of the firm and as a son of a former Partner, Patrick Sweeney.

Sean A. Mahon & Company was started by Sean Mahon in 1996 and incorporated the practice of the former County Registrar and current Circuit Court Judge William Lyster, Lyster & Co. The amalgamation of Farrell McDonnell Sweeney and Sean A. Mahon & Co. created a practice with a broad local business and agricultural base with an appreciation of modern business models. The practice has a reputation for providing practical and sound advice to its clients, be they private individuals, farmers or businesses. We pride ourselves in bringing a practical business insight to our professional advice. In the current climate it is essential that the practice is not only able to point out the problems but also advise on and recommend solutions by applying common sense, insight and a practical understanding of the problem. This is our aim and we will be relentless in pursuing this for our clients.

Mahon Sweeney Solicitors have an office in Roscommon Town and Elphin, County Roscommon.
